Mark important locations on your map with Waypoints, and measure distances and areas with Lines and Shapes. Build Routes that snap to roads and trails. Waypoints, Routes, Lines, and Shapes are called "Markups" and are saved to your account in the My Content Menu.

Using Map Tools in the onX Backcountry App
Tap and hold to quickly place a Waypoint anywhere on the map.
Tap the Tools button at the bottom of the main screen.
Create a Waypoint in the center of the map area currently visible on your screen by tapping the "Add Waypoint" button.
Create a Waypoint with a photo attached by tapping the "Add Photo" button. You can choose to take a new photo or attach one from your device's library. After creating a normal Waypoint, you can attach a photo by editing it in the My Content Menu.
Quickly mark your current physical location by tapping the "Mark My Location" button.
When creating or editing a Markup, swipe the card up to view more customization options.
You can customize your Markups with:
- Colors.
- Line styles and weights.
- Waypoint photos.
- Waypoint icons.
Draw a line and measure distance by tapping the "Line Distance" button.
Tap two points on your map, then tap "Save" at the bottom of the screen.
Draw a shape and measure an area by tapping the "Area Shape" button.
Tap three or more points on your map, then tap "Save" at the bottom of the screen.

Using Map Tools in the onX Backcountry Web Map
Click the Waypoint tool in the Map Tools Menu to create a Waypoint. The Waypoint will appear in the center of your map, and you can click and drag it to an exact location.
Draw a line and measure distance by clicking the "Draw Line / Measure Distance" button.
Click two points on your map, then click "Save."
Draw a shape and measure an area by clicking the "Draw Shape / Measure Area" button.
Click three or more points on your map, then click "Save" at the bottom of the screen.
Drawing Lines and Areas freehand:
Click "Free Draw" to draw Lines on your map instead of clicking to add points with straight lines between them.
