Trail Mode includes hiking and backpacking trails that you can filter by difficulty level, length, total time, elevation gain, low/high point, and whether or not dogs are allowed.

Featured hiking trails are green, blue, or black trails on your map with a white border. Featured Trails include more information than normal trails, like descriptions, trail reports, elevation profiles, and photos.
Green Featured Trails: easy, flat.
Blue Featured Trails: moderate, steeper.
Black Featured Trails: strenuous or very strenuous, steepest.
Tip: turn on the Trail Slope Layer in the Basemaps and Map Layers Menu to help judge the difficulty of normal trails. Click here to learn more about using the Basemaps and Map Layers Menu.
To filter hiking trails in the onX Backcountry App, tap the Activity button.
To filter hiking trails in the onX Backcountry Web Map, click the Discover button.
Click the "All" button to choose from all trail filters.
You can filter hiking/backpacking trails by:
- Difficulty level: easy, moderate, strenuous, or very strenuous.
- Trail Length: use the sliders to choose a minimum and maximum length.
- Total Time: use the sliders to choose a minimum and maximum time.
- Elevation Gain: use the sliders to choose a minimum and maximum elevation gain.
- Low/High Point: use the sliders to choose a minimum low point and a maximum high point.
- Dogs Allowed: no, on-leash, or off-leash.
